Web Order Buy Example – Kristen wants to buy $100 of BTC with USD. The prevailing Gemini market price of BTC is $4000 USD. On her website application, Kristen is provided a Quoted Price of $4020 USD to buy 1 BTC. This represents the Gemini market price of $4000 USD, plus the 0.50% Convenience Fee (Gemini market price × 1.005). When Kristen enters her buy Web Order for $100 USD and clicks on “Review Order,” the Transaction Fee of $2.99 USD is displayed on her website application along with the total BTC amount of 0.02413184 (($100 USD -$2.99 USD)/$4020 USD = 0.02413184 BTC) that she will receive for her buy Web Order. Kristen clicks on “Place Order” to place her Web Order to buy 0.02413184 BTC for $100 USD. Fees are only incurred when her Web Order is executed.
Web Order Sell Example – Marcus wants to sell 0.03 BTC for USD. On his website application, Marcus is provided a Quoted Price of $3980 USD to sell 1 BTC. This represents the prevailing Gemini market price of $4000 USD, minus the 0.50% Convenience Fee (Gemini market price × 0.995). When Marcus enters his sell Web Order for 0.03 BTC, the Transaction Fee of $2.99 USD is displayed on his website application along with the total proceeds amount of $116.41 ((0.03 * $3980 USD) – $2.99 USD = $116.41 USD) that he will receive for his sell Web Order. Marcus clicks on “Place Order” to place his Web Order to sell 0.03 BTC and receives $116.41 USD. Fees are only incurred when his Web Order is executed.

Web Limit Order Fee Schedule (From May 21, 2024)
This fee schedule will take effect on May 21, 2024
Limit orders will be subject to the maker and taker fee schedule .
Maker & Taker Fee Schedule
Gemini utilizes a maker-taker fee model for determining trading fees for all Orders. Liquidity-making Orders are charged different fees than liquidity-taking Orders. If you place an Order that is filled immediately, this Order takes liquidity from the marketplace and, therefore, you are considered a taker and will be charged a taker fee. If you place an Order that is not filled immediately, but instead rests on the order book, your Order adds liquidity to the marketplace and, therefore, you are considered a maker and will be charged a maker fee.
Your Order could be subject to both maker and taker fees. If you place an Order that is partially filled immediately, you will be charged a taker fee on the filled portion. The remainder of your Order will rest on the order book and will be charged a maker fee when it is filled.
Order Variations
Order Type | Definition |
---|
Limit Order | Filled at or better than a specified price. Any quantity that is not filled rests on the continuous order book until it is filled or canceled. |
The following rates apply to Limit orders
Fee Schedule
Your fee rate for every trading pair is determined by your gross trading volume in notional USD across all of Gemini’s continuous order books over a 30-calendar-day trailing window. Your fee rate will be recalculated every day at midnight UTC (7pm EST / 8pm EDT) and applied to all Orders going forward from that time.
30-DAY TRADING VOLUME IN (USD NOTIONAL) | TAKER FEE | MAKER FEE |
---|
0 | 0.40% | 0.20% |
≥ $10,000 | 0.30% | 0.10% |
≥ $50,000 | 0.25% | 0.10% |
≥ $100,000 | 0.20% | 0.08% |
≥ $1,000,000 | 0.15% | 0.05% |
≥ $5,000,000 | 0.10% | 0.03% |
≥ $10,000,000 | 0.08% | 0.02% |
≥ $50,000,000 | 0.05% | 0.00% |
≥ $100,000,000 | 0.04% | 0.00% |
≥ $500,000,000 | 0.03% | 0.00% |
Fee Calculation
We calculate fees as a fraction of the notional value of each trade (i.e., price × amount). Depending on the Order type, fees will be either deducted from the gross proceeds of a trade or charged to the account at the time a trade is executed. Any fees will be applied at the time an Order is placed. For partially filled Orders, only the executed portion is subject to trading fees.
Fee Denominations
Fees are charged in quote currency, or the second currency in the pair. Example: The transaction fee for BTC/USD will be charged in USD. Additionally, the transaction fee for ETH/BTC will be charged in BTC.

The Convenience Fee is calculated at a rate of 0.50% (or 50 basis points) above the prevailing Gemini market price for a given trading pair at the time we provide you the Quoted Price. Your actual Convenience Fee may be greater or lower than 0.50% due to price movement in the market between the time we provide you the Quoted Price and the time your Web Order is filled; however, this will not affect the price you pay.
